Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in Australia, and with that growth comes an increasing demand for immersive learning experiences that go beyond a casual hit at the local courts. A pickleball camp in Australia offers exactly that — a structured, multi-day retreat where players of all levels can develop their skills under expert guidance while enjoying a memorable getaway.
If you've been curious about what a pickleball camp actually involves, who it's designed for, and whether it's worth the investment, this guide covers everything you need to know before you book.
What Is a Pickleball Camp?
A pickleball camp is an intensive, multi-day program that combines professional coaching, structured drills, match play, and strategy sessions in a retreat-style format. Unlike a one-off clinic or group lesson, a camp gives you sustained, focused time on court — typically two to four hours per day across multiple days — so you can build skills progressively rather than in isolation.
At Pickleball Camp, our camps run for three days and two nights. That timeframe strikes the ideal balance: long enough to see genuine improvement, short enough to fit into a busy schedule. You'll arrive on Monday, play through to Wednesday, and leave as a measurably better player.
Who Is It For?
The short answer: any adult who wants to improve their pickleball game. Our camps cater to beginners who are still learning the rules, intermediate players looking to refine technique, and advanced competitors who want to sharpen their strategy and mental game.
Sessions are tailored to your current skill level. During the initial assessment on Day 1, your coach evaluates your strengths, areas for improvement, and personal goals. From there, coaching is adapted so you're always working at the right intensity — challenged, but never overwhelmed.
You don't need a partner or a group to attend. Many attendees come solo and leave with new friends (and new doubles partners). The social element is a huge part of the experience.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
Day 1: Arrive and Assess
You'll arrive at the venue around midday and meet your fellow attendees and coach over a relaxed lunch. The afternoon kicks off with an assessment session where the coach identifies your playing style, technical habits, and areas to focus on. Expect to work on foundational skills like power drives, drop shot placement, and court positioning. The day wraps up with a doubles strategy talk and a group dinner at the resort.
Day 2: Learn and Compete
The morning session builds on Day 1, moving into more advanced territory — volleys, net play, serving technique, and return strategy. After lunch, it's tournament time. A fun, structured round-robin gives you the chance to apply what you've learned in real match scenarios, with prizes for the winners. The afternoon continues with a mental game and sport psychology session, followed by dinner at the resort.
Day 3: Recap and Depart
The final morning is all about consolidation. Your coach runs a "putting it all together" session that ties the previous two days' learning into a cohesive game plan you can take home. A farewell lunch wraps up the camp before departure in the early afternoon.
Why the Hunter Valley?
Location matters. A pickleball camp in Australia should feel like a retreat, not just a training block. The Hunter Valley — just two hours north of Sydney — delivers on both fronts. Rydges Resort Hunter Valley, where our camps are held, is Australia's largest inland resort set on 100 acres surrounded by vineyards and the Brokenback Range. You'll play on 4 purpose-built outdoor pickleball courts, stay in private villas, and enjoy all meals included at the resort's restaurants.
The combination of world-class sport and wine country hospitality is what sets this experience apart from a weekend clinic at your local community centre.
What's Included?
Our camps are fully inclusive, which means you don't need to worry about logistics once you arrive. Your package covers:
- Two nights villa accommodation at Rydges Resort Hunter Valley
- Three days of PCI-accredited coaching tailored to your level
- All meals included — breakfast, lunch each day, plus two dinners at the resort
- Unlimited use of 4 purpose-built pickleball courts
- A fun tournament with prizes
- A free premium paddle valued at $145
- Free IceRays UV Sleeves
Everything is taken care of so you can focus entirely on your game and enjoy the experience.
How to Prepare
You don't need much to get ready for camp. Here are a few tips:
- Fitness: You'll be on court for two to four hours a day, so a baseline level of fitness is helpful. If you can play a couple of social games back to back without needing a long rest, you're ready.
- Gear: Bring comfortable court shoes with non-marking soles, athletic clothing suitable for outdoor play, and a water bottle. We provide a paddle — your new premium paddle is included — but you're welcome to bring your own as well.
- Mindset: Come ready to learn and be coached. The biggest improvements happen when players are open to trying new techniques, even if they feel awkward at first.
- Travel: The Hunter Valley is roughly a two-hour drive from Sydney. We recommend arriving by midday on Day 1. If you're flying in from interstate, Sydney Airport is your closest hub.
Is It Worth It?
If you're serious about improving your pickleball game — or simply want an unforgettable sporting getaway — a camp delivers value that individual lessons and casual play simply can't match. The combination of sustained coaching, structured practice, competitive play, and luxury downtime creates an environment where real growth happens.
Most attendees tell us they improve more in three days at camp than in three months of regular social play. That's the power of focused, expert-led practice in a supportive environment.
